Is this real life?

February 21, 2011

I’m pretty sure life can go back to ‘normal’ at the Willis household. I’m done with traveling for a while and most of my non-normal obligations. The nursery is painted (thanks Audrey!) and Liz has her first shower on Saturday. My goal for the week is to get rid of 2 entertainment centers that we no longer have room for.

Liz is officially a ‘stay at home mom’ as her last day of work was a week ago. This will be the first week that we both get familiar with the new arrangement as I was in Chicago last week.

What’s all this #bctconf about?

February 9, 2011

I’ve been asked by a few of my friends/followers what all this #BCTC stuff is in my tweets and Facebook updates.

My church hosts a Biblical Counseling Training Conference (BCTC) every year in February. It concentrates on equipping people to use biblical foundations and truths when helping others work through issues. It’s NOT about faith healing or denying the use of modern medicine. We aren’t preaching against psychiatry or psychology. The focus is counseling people with a solid foundation in the word of God.

Over 1600 people from all over the country (and the world) are in little ‘ol Lafayette, Indiana to receive teaching and training in how to counsel biblically. We offer classes to become certified in biblical counseling as well as emerging areas where biblical truths can be applied in counseling sessions (for example the use of technology to aid counseling, and also ways in which technology can influence someone to need counseling).

For the past 4 years, I’ve been blessed to be a part of this conference through the technology ministry. I take a few days off work so that I can be a part of something so great. It’s always a busy week for me and  Liz but we both  see the eternal value of all this effort.

We pray that those attending this week are served well. And if you have time, be sure to come back to the soundbooth and say ‘Hi’.

Walkin’ in a winter wonderland

February 2, 2011

I’m attending software training this week in Chicago. I’m also currently stuck in my hotel as a blizzard is currently raging outside (you might have heard about this little storm that’s currently moving across the United States).

Chicago didn’t receive any snow Monday evening although Lafayette received about 4 inches. This morning’s training session went very well but we were informed around noon that the facility would be closed on Wednesday. A few students at the training didn’t stay locally as they live only about an hour away from the facility. I didn’t have time to make it home before the blizzard started so I’m holing myself up in my hotel room until at least Thursday. Fortunately I purchased ‘Starcraft II’ prior to leaving town in case this happened. At least I have something to keep me occupied tomorrow.

A friend of mine who lives in Chicago (shout out to Joe Layne) picked me up after training today to grab something to eat before everything closed down. We at at Joe’s Crab Shack (two Joes, eating at Joe’s) and stopped by Meijer so that I could get some food supplies for tomorrow. The roads were really bad but we got where we needed to be.

All in all it’s been a fun trip but I’d much rather be snowed in with my beautiful wife than in a hotel in Chicago.
